The Dicastery for Communication (DPC) is the official point of contact for all matters concerning the television broadcasts from the Vatican. The origins of the telecasts go back to 1974 when the first worldwide broadcasts of papal ceremonies started. Since then the global telecasts have included celebrations at Christmas, Easter, jubilee years and other special moments in the life of the Church. The telecasts are distributed via a series of satellites reaching television outlets and networks around the world for re-transmission to their own audiences. The global satellite distribution has been made possible through the generosity of the Knights of Columbus.
